Gallopper has captured interesting details of their project, “The Designers Den”
The Designer Den is inspired by Mid-Century Scandinavian Style. The primary aim while designing was to embrace the pleasant weather of Bangalore and the Mid-Century Scandinavian style, a natural choice for them. At the Designers Den one can view a seamless flow of the outdoors indoors through huge windows, open spaces, balconies, etc. One can also view typical Scandinavian features like the predominant use of white and light shades, extravagant use of lighting as well as curvy and soft furniture and accessories, etc. in this villa. The villa is a meticulous fusion of modern mid-century style with contemporary patterns and natural materials creating a seamless flow of indoors outdoors that has resulted in a wonderful medley of functional comfort and chic style.
The Alfresco dining area, a typical of the Scandinavian style, is an attempt put their feet on the natural world with a tree, wooden table and chirping sounds of the birds. It is an extension of the open kitchen cum dining area and makes optimal use of garden space, bringing in the outdoors.
This steel and wood cantilevered staircase extends till 2nd floor with beautifully designed pendants in the middle. Floating steps are fabricated out of steel ‘C’ sections and the glass guardrail reinforces the floating effect. Two sky bridges connect different parts of the house and is clad with teakwood planks on top and bottom.
Natural stone wall of an interesting pattern is used to add texture to this kitchen backdrop. Visual effect of ‘kitchen coming out of a stone wall’ was the main idea behind this floating island counter. Structural glass panels support the kitchen counter and give full transparency and floating effect to this kitchen.
The grey color wall accentuates the white furniture and other elements. Ambient lighting plays a great role in highlighting the texture of the rough stone wall. Cove lighting and shelf lights are added to achieve this. Dark granite floor and grey stone walls uplift the white glossy kitchen. The designer’s eye for detail and pursuit of beauty and class stands out in every aspect of the design and from the selection of shades to the furniture and other accessories.
A 9 feet raw edged teakwood slab is used as master bed headboard. A free standing Tub is placed behind the headboard with a strip of skylight and the house plants and ficus besides the tub gives the feel of an outdoor garden. Scandinavian style furniture can be seen inside the master bathroom too.
They have carefully selected dark shades for the flooring to highlight the white furniture. The grey color walls accentuate the white door frames, floor skirting, white furniture and other element. The Living Room is designed with lots of filtered sunlight during the day time. The Family living space is highlighted with exposed brick wall and warm wood accents.Scandinavian style prayer console and color coordinated cushion, puffy seats make the room a cozy one. It has a good mix of stone and wood. They tried to bring the ‘outside in’ with air purifying plants and a striking water body.

Savio and Rupa have followed the mid-century curvy design pattern in the selection of furniture as well. Scandinavian storage cabinets, oval shaped sofas, coffee table and chandelier break the monotony of straight line fashion. They have carefully selected dark shades for the flooring to highlight the white furniture.
Justifying her inspiration for her works, Rupa signs off with the Mantra of Rupa & Savio Interior Concepts, “We believe in listening with great attention and understanding our customer’s needs thoroughly before beginning to create a concept. What’s more, we keep them involved and take their feedback continuously throughout all the stages of the project. That’s why we think of it more like a partnership”.
